As with any other Adobe application, the initial steps are quite simple to follow. You just need to install and download it as instructed. The software does not require any extra permissions or authorizations.
It’s true that Adobe Acrobat Reader is just clustered with too many things at your face. You have to spend a little time understanding all the features and then go with the flow.
However, the interface showcases all the available features (some require the Pro version) at a glance. So, spending a little bit of time can be enough to understand different functions and features.
Experience
Upon launching the application, you get a nice clean Recent section where you can view all the recently accessed files.
If you click on the top See All Tools button, then you will be able to access all the available features of Adobe Acrobat Reader. However, it’s rather unfortunate that not all the features are available without paying.
Furthermore, you have the option to share your files through most online cloud storage networks such as OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, and more. But to avail of this feature, you’ll need to connect your Adobe ID to your PDF reader.
Now, you’re definitely gonna use this software to open, read, and edit some PDFs, right? Well, that’s what I want to cover now.
Once you open a PDF with Adobe Acrobat Reader, you’ll find all the tools on the left side of the screen. The tools are quite useful but the only problem is that most features are not available on the free version. So, that’s definitely something I don’t like with this software.
You can even convert your PDFs to different file formats but again, that feature is restricted to the Pro version.
What I was able to do with the free version was add comments, highlight lines, make annotations, draw on the page, add shapes, and some other simple functions. Now, these features definitely add some nice customization touches but I don’t believe that’s enough for a PDF reader to have.
It’s truly a matter of regret that most of the features are not available for the regular version. I don’t think you can do much with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC if you like to customize your PDFs a lot.
For all it matters, you can use the available tools and features to the fullest without hampering your workflow.
Bottom Line
Yes, Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is surely a refined software without any bugs or software support issues. However, the limitation of the free version adds more pain than pleasure to the whole experience.
If you can live with the restrictions, then Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is a great application for your daily PDF work.
